[community profile] questionoftheday asks: What seemingly insignificant little piece of knowledge did you spend your whole life believing to be true only to find out it wasn't and then feel like your life was a lie afterwards?

My answer: I always thought that the lyrics to Bruce Springsteen's I'm On Fire went like this:

it's like someone took a knife, baby, edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley through the middle of my skull

But it turns out that they're actually like this:

it's like someone took a knife, baby, edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley through the middle of my soul

And that pisses me off really bad, because quite frankly, 'skull' sounds way cooler.

The Staves have a really good cover that you should check out. They say 'skull' in it, I just checked.

[community profile] questionoftheday asks: What is the most expensive thing you have ever broken?

My answer: sat on my fuckin 3ds and broke the hinge... it still works but you can't tilt the screen anymore and it flops all over the place. unfortunate.

[community profile] questionoftheday asks: What songs do you think people remember you by?

My answer: I am constantly singing the French chorus from Pink Wine by St. Paul de Vence! I'm sure it's terribly annoying, since I've been doing it for quite some time.

The song is about the singer's own grandfather, who grew up in France during German occupation. The part that I incessantly repeat reads as such:

Vous n'aurez jamais ma chanson
Vous marcherez un long chemin de silence
Mon pays ma donne cette chanson
Toujours je chanterai, vous salauds!

Roughly translated, it means:

You will never take my song
You will march a long path in silence
My country gave me this song
And I will always sing, you bastards!

You should give it a listen--it's a very poignant song, and very atmospheric. Plus, there's a very fun part at the end of the song where you get to shout VOUS SALAUDS at the top of your lungs and hold it for a very long time.

[community profile] questionoftheday asks: Do you have any interesting stories about an old teacher? Did they ever do something crazy or unforgettable in front of the class?

My answer: I don't have a story about a teacher, though I'm certain that there are some--I have a story about a classmate.

This was a girl I knew in middle school, a girl who seemed to be far cooler than me but really just had a lot of emotional issues that she covered up by acting out and dating a very long list of people for very short periods of time. Which is fine. Lots of people are like that in middle school, I'm not gonna judge her for that. Nor am I going to judge her for having at least three piercings in each of her ears, nor for allowing me to rearrange them for her during the middle of a very boring lecture from a very unlikeable teacher.

I moved the earrings around from piercing to piercing, arranging them in a way that I thought looked nice, and I thought that one of them might have worked well in her cartilage piercing. She'd mentioned, though, that she was thinking of closing it up, and there wasn't anything in it that day, so I asked if she still had it.

She said no.

Then she took the earring, and did the thing that I feel perfectly secure in judging her for.

She. Pierced. Her. Fucking. Cartilage. Right in class! With a dull, dirty earring!

And when I was visibly shocked, she just shrugged and went back to what she was doing. The teacher, even though she was a terrible bitch who hated it when anyone under the age of thirty had fun, didn't notice whatsoever, either.

It's gonna haunt me to my grave.

[community profile] questionoftheday asks: Did you ever do any weird rituals as a kid with your siblings/friends? What was its purpose and how did it get started?

My answer: In high school, I had a friend who loved to get sappy sometimes. We had a tradition, though I don't remember how in hell it started, where we would take a bottle of any drink, so long as it was pink, and pass it back and forth, making a toast each time. I'm honest to god surprised that neither of us got mono, but it was fun and really wholesome now that I think about it!
